OOPS! What do you mean it's SEPTEMBER!!!

Well, I knew it would happen sooner or later.....I didn't get the blog done in the month it was suppose to be done in.  Nothing carved in stone, but I had a goal to send one out every month.  August marked a new adventure in our Iceland Saga.  We had our last holiday until Christmas and we were able to drive to the Westfjords.

Our travels took us to Patreksfjörður, then to Ísafjörður and, finally, Holmavik. The following pictures are some of the highlights of this beautiful area of Iceland.

The work at the archive is going well.  The archive is having difficulty keeping us supplied with projects to image since Al has started using the camera to capture images instead of the scanner.  They keep telling Al to slow down!  We are trying to find out exactly what is left to image and this will tell us if there will be a need for another couple to come and replace us.  If they would get the books and papers to us, we would probably be able to finish by the end of our mission.  However, I am not producing much right now because my scanner has decided to start acting up.  The glass isn't working properly and a new motor has been ordered to replace the one that raises and lowers the glass.  Also, the crop isn't working right and I have to manually crop nearly every paper.  This makes the work extremely slow. 

Summer is definitely over and Fall has arrived.  We are down into the 30s at night!!  Everyone is back to work after all the summer holidays and the morning and afternoon traffic reflects it!!

    You are certainly in a beautiful country. I have always wanted to visit Iceland. We have two months left in our mission here in the Palmyra Temple.

    Amazing wildlife there. Glad you guys can still climb. I feel good about being able to climb my stairs. haha. Great work you're doing there!

FEBRUARY FIRE AND FROST

February Fire and Frost First part of February .....Temperatures are starting to drop.  We are, as of this entry, at 19 degrees at night with a daytime high in the mid-twenties.  Add in the wind-chill factor (and the wind blows here a lot), it is a wee bit nippy!!  We are at about 7 hours of daylight now!  It is nice to come home in the light instead of the dark. Driving to church on Sunday we were blessed with this absolutely gorgeous sun rise!  Naturally, the pictures don't do it justice.  It looked like the sky was on fire!  Absolutely breathtaking!!! We Are Finally Here!

Today is Sunday, December 23rd, and we have been in Iceland for one week!  We had a wonderful week at the Provo MTC.  We were there with Al's brother Brent and his sister-in-law Charlene.  We served with them in Ukraine and in South Africa and it was just a coincidence that they were going to the MTC the same week as us.  They are serving a mission for their stake at home.  We had a small group at the MTC - there were only about 22 couples and two single sisters.  Out of all of these, there were only three couples going on foreign missions.  Most of the couples were doing missions from home for their stakes. Arriving at the MTC Who? What?  We thought it might say "old and gray" but it actually says "Elder"! Can't quite reach it!!! MTC Group 1 I am sitting next to the single sisters and my sister-in-law is next to me. The single sister next to me has a young man in her home ward who was in our ward in Anchorage, Alas...

And so it begins!

We received our call to serve our 6th mission for our church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We will be serving in the Denmark Copenhagen Mission in the Iceland Mission Region.  It will be another family history mission where we will be doing records preservation with the Europe Area Family History Department.  We will be based in Reykjavik, Iceland. We are excited to be going somewhere new and different to explore while doing the work that we have come to love. Stay tuned - more information to come.
