SPRINGTIME IS HERE!

So, how do you know when Spring has arrived?  In Alaska, it was the return of the beautiful Canada Geese; in Scotland it was fields filled with little lambs.  In Iceland, it is the onset of cruise ships in the harbor, baby geese laying in the grass, a trip to the zoo and tulips.   One cruise ship arrives about every week.  Sadly, some only stay for a day.  Can't see much of Iceland in that amount of time. Where Did April Go?

Here we are at the first of May and I am wondering what happened to April?  The days are getting longer and the temperatures are into the high 50s.  Last week we had Thursday off because it was a national holiday celebrating the first day of Summer !!  I was really surprised since I was still waiting for Spring to arrive.   Actually, Spring is starting to show itself with green grass and moss replacing the snow over the land. A few flowers are blooming and the trees have buds on them.   Easter is celebrated here with a holiday that begins with the Thursday before Good Friday and goes through the following Monday.  Since the archive was closed over those days, we decided to travel and see some sights.  We traveled to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula which is about two hours from Reykjavik.  You can see a sampling of all the diversity in this country on this peninsula.  One side has a stark landscape of mostly lava rock.  The...
